If any doubt just walk into their showroom or service centre and just see things around.Īlso if you run only in the city and have high running buy an ev only then to justify the savings in running costs and be able to charge at home. In the end they negotiated 10k and after one month they gave me a cheque for 6k. Vinayak assured a allowance for each day. The car was in the showroom for one month. From ac problems to catalytic converters I had all sorts of problems. So much so that I will never consider a Tata car ever no matter what. Range never crossed 180 no matter how I drove it and was stranded couple of times with a kid thanks to the ever reliable charging network of Tata power. Tata after sales and the poor range is the only reason I sold off my nexon ev after 3 months of painful ownership. It will be eye opening to track the progress when we get to the 5 year anniversary. It's just two years ago that a viable EV was launched in India and look where we have got to today. The public has no time to waste on pro-oil or anti global warming agenda that still riles of a lot of numptees in the west! If it makes economic and practical sense then it's a definitive YES. I find India is far more functional and progressive when it comes to making the transition. Yes our average income might make owning an electric car a distant dream for many but look at the hundreds of thousands who have replaced petrol power with electric scooters. In comparison India has been far more receptive to EV transportation as a viable alternative. There have been plenty of stories of EV charging stations being vandalised in the US, large pickup trucks purposely blocking access, or ICE cars wrongly parked in Electric charging bays. That said the rate of progress will be far faster than the so called developed nations! I am strongly of the opinion that when it does happen, change happens much rapidly in India. EV ownership and recharging will mean structural behavioural changes from owners vis a vis decades of ICE ownership. and at public level proper upkeep of public charging infrastructure, most of which will be unmanned prone to public nuisance and damage due to unrests and also having India-friendly pubic charging systems for enabling ease of operations for less tech savvy senior citizens and adults alike. We also need a larger social/behavioral change to adapt to E.V's, at a personal level adapting to range anxiety etc. I agree Physical infrastructure will follow but there are and will be challenges/risk associated with it. Challenges were very much prevalent when countries started their EV transition, India is no exception. The private sector will be the most active participants, the name of the game is 'demand and supply'. ICRA estimates India to see around 48,000 additional electric vehicle chargers at an investment of around Rs 14,000 crore over the next 3-4 years.
